Watch me Grow
Our objective is to give
to the equine community, an opportunity to see first hand what it takes
to raise a well mannered, healthy broke horse. We feel that
responsibility, time, passion , and knowledge are key fundamental
elements, with endless abundant reward. Feel free to ask questions or
give input regarding Cajun as he grows.
Cajun was born March 30, 2008, he is a
golden palomino stud colt. His sire is Dox
Serendipity and his dam is DashnDoc Dally Chex,
both of Y-Y Quarter horses. Thank you Y-Y for giving us this opportunity
to raise such a nice colt.
4/19/08 Cajun is currently
enjoying his time with his mother, nursing and eating pellets. He is
learning what he can and can't get away with already. Some issues we are
dealing with are biting, kicking and force. He is learning how to
respect people and not to walk on top of them. He is very friendly,
walks up to you when you go to visit him. Cajun is picking letting you
pick up his feet, and really enjoys a good massage.
5/15/08 Cajun began his
journey to halter breaking. He was pretty relaxed about it, only through
one fit, rearing up and flopping on his side. He soon learned that
behavior would not get him anywhere, and began to respond to the "give
and take" approach. After 20 minutes of working him, he ended licking
his lips and wanting to further investigate, "psycho" (the cat). He
loves cats and dogs, and I can assume that he is going to be one who
thinks he is more of a person than a horse. He doesn't miss a thing, if
one of his fellow colts are being taken out of the pasture, he runs to
the gate to see exactly what is going on. After being turned out
for the evening, he stood at the gate looking at us like why were we
leaving him. He is really something.
10/16/08 Cajun brought the
steers up the alley way today, by himself. He is continuing to give his
face side to side, and at the poll. Cajun has familiarized himself with
the barrel arena, will allow you to roll barrels to his front legs and
tracks it when it rolls away. He has met our roping-training device
sparky and is quite inquisitive as to why he has plastic horns. He has
started crossing the tarps and is very good about crossing logs. He is
really growing up and is just a joy daily.
2/1/09 Cajun has survived
the majority on our Montana winter, we are looking very forward to
getting back to business this spring. Cajun has received his permanent
AQHA registration, Dox Cajun Chex is his registered name.
3/1/09 Cajun was gelded
today, had his wolf teeth pulled, also his yearly vaccinations.
3/3/09 Cajun has quite a
bit of swelling, he was started lounging today. Proud to say he learned
the gist of round penning, WHOA, along with joining up today.
3/4/09 Cajun is really
showing a trainable attitude, willing, and pleasing.
11/09 Cajun is already as
big as his 5yr old co-heart, Boss. He is still very trainable, and
responsive to cues from the ground. He is very light in his face, moves
off the lead and yields his hip. He is the one who will walk out and
catch you in the pasture or in the corral. He will walk right over all
obstacles, and lowers his head when asked.
4/6/10 Its been while since
any news however, we have just been watching him grow. Cajun stands 15
hands right now, and is sweet as ever. The day you and I have waited to
see, HE IS STARTED UNDER SADDLE. We made it! Below is a video of his
second and third rides, don't think I have any explaining to do. He is
one of a kind, so trainable, willing, and talented, just as we had
hoped.
